Cast Iron can be one of the harder materials to weld for any beginner or anyone new to welding cast iron. There are so many variables when dealing with castings. You really need to know the actual material it is that you are trying to weld. This comes into play mostly when doing repairs. You are given a casting, and you are told it is cast iron, but what grade is it. Can it be welded. The best advise is to take the welding to a company who has extensive experience doing this type of welding. If you have a good casting and know what grade it is, then by all means feel free to give it your best.
